ATP CHAMPIONS TOUR GETS UNDERWAY FRIDAY Lots of Action At The Delray Beach ITC For The Next 10 Days The 21st annual Delray Beach ITC is set to get underway Friday with the ATP Champions Tour leading off: a pair of evening matches will pit Boca Raton’s Aaron Krickstein against defending champion Carlos Moya at 6:30 pm and John McEnroe facing Pat Cash in the nightcap at 8:30 pm. The legends will continue to play their round robin tournament into Saturday, with four matches scheduled at the Delray Beach Stadium & Tennis Center. The match not to miss? Mardy Fish has withdrawn from the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships, citing continuing health issues. "We are definitely going to miss having Mardy in our field," said tournament director Mark Baron. "But what's more important is that his health continues to improve so that he can resume his tennis career. NO. 2 AMERICAN SAM QUERREY GETS WILD CARD Top Four Americans in the 32-Player Field [spacer size="10"][frame align="left"] [/frame] DELRAY BEACH, FL - World No. 20 Sam Querrey has accepted a wild card to play in the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships (ITC) next month. The ITC gets underway February 22 and runs through March 3 at the Delray Beach Stadium and includes both ATP Champions Tour and ATP World Tour events. Querrey, the No. 2-ranked American, will be making his fifth appearance in the ITC. He reached the semifinals in 2008 and has a 4-2 mark in the event.  The 25-year-old Querrey is out to a 4-2 record to start the 2013 season, reaching the semifinal in Auckland in his season-opening tournament earlier this month. Former Champions Returning For 2013 ITC Former champions Tommy Haas and Kei Nishikori have signed on to play in the 2013 Delray Beach International Tennis Championships (ITC), giving the tournament five former champions in its ATP World Tour field. Haas, the 2006 champion, and Nishikori, who began his accent to the Top 20 with his first career win in the 2008 ITC, will join Mardy Fish (2009) and the world's top-ranked doubles duo of Mike and Bob Bryan (2009, 2010) in returning to the tournament where they have won ATP titles. Bango "Survives" Three-Setter To Repeat As ITC Pre-Qualie Champion Sekou Bangoura, Jr won the Delray Beach ITC “Survivor I” pre-qualifying tournament for the second straight year, beating Eric Hechtman in three sets, 2-6, 6-0, 6-1, to top a field of 128 players. Bangoura, a 21-year-old who is playing Futures and Challenger events as an ATP pro, played two years at the University of Florida where he led the Gators with a 21-3 singles record his freshman year. As an 18-year-old junior player, he was the 2009 runner-up at the 2009 Delray Beach-hosted USTA National Clay Court Championships. Andy Roddick Announces Retirement Following US Open; Isner, Fish, Bryans Show-up Strong In Summer Andy Roddick, who played his first professional match at the Delray Beach ITC, announced his retirement at the US Open on Thursday, effective at the completion the Grand Slam event. Roddick was among the group of top American players that were announced last week as part of the 2013 Delray Beach ITC player field. “I’m happy for Andy,” said tournament director Mark Baron, who gave a 17-year-old Roddick his first wild card in 2000. “We’ve been close since giving him that first wild card into an ATP event, and the rest is history.
