Emilio Sanchez Joins ATP Champions Tour Event

The multiple Grand Slam doubles winner will play for the International Team

DELRAY BEACH: Spaniard Emilio Sanchez will play in his first ATP Champions Tour event in Delray Beach, replacing Brit Greg Rusedski on the three-player international team.
Sanchez was a three-time Grand Slam doubles champion, winning titles in 1988 at the French Open (w/Andres Gomez) and US Open (w/Sergio Casal), and again at the French Open in 1990 (w/Casal). He also won a pair of Grand Slam mixed doubles titles in 1987 at the French Open (w/Pam Shriver) and at the US Open (w/ Martina Navratilova).Sanchez won 50 ATP World Tour doubles titles in his career, reaching No. 1 in 1989, and added another 15 career singles titles. He captained Spain’s 2008 Davis Cup team to the world title.
 

Sanchez currently runs successful tennis academies in Barcelona and in Naples, Florida. He will join former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic and two-time Grand Slam finalist Mark Philippoussis in trying to upend an American team that includes James Blake, Michael Chang and Justin Gimelstob.
